I chose these pictures for my mural because i felt they depicted the devastation and magnitude of the war. It shows how the Vietnamese used every available person to fight. In the one picture you see a Vietnamese woman carrying a gun and in another there is a young boy hiding in a ditch with a gun and a dog. This collage expresses the loss felt to America as well as Vietnam. It shows a man standing at the Vietnam memorial wall. He is standing in front of the names of all the men that died next to him in the war. This mural also shows the unusual and rough terrain that Americans were fighting on. We weren't used to this area and didn't know the land. This put us at a major disadvantage since the Vietnamese knew it very well.

This is one of the protest songs that came out during the Vietnam War. It speaks of how you dont need to have war. You can use diplomacy to the same effect as bombs and guns. He names off many of the reasons we have gone to war and have been against for years. Then all he asks for is to give peace a chance. If this song had come out during current years suchas during the war in Iraq it could have had the same effect i believe. There will always be some people that agree and some that dont but there are millions of people out there that say we should just pull out of the war and give peace a chance. however, others will say how they committed a huge offense directly against america and should pay for their actions. Just like back during the Vietnam War when the song did come out there would be a controversy over it.

The man looks like he is remembering his times in the war and thnking about how he had survived but all the names and picturesd of men in front of him didn't. He even may have seen or been friends with some of them yet he is standing on front of the wall and they are on it. It is sort of like when you are in a car crash and you are the only survivor. You knew all of the people who died and you were in the same position as them yet you didn't. You cant help but wonder why and how you survived and aren't one of the ones someone else is thinking about.

Carl Ealy

Carl Ealy was killed in the Vietnam war in south Vietnam. Carl was born in clevland Ohio. Carl Ealy was a sergeant at the age of 21 when he was killed. I already have visited this wall a few years back. When i was standing in front of the wall i started thinking of how huge the wall was and it was still covered with names of the men and women who had died. Its a kind of reality check to the amount of people who have givin their lives to help protect your freedom. I dont personaly have any family that were in the war but when you are there you feel like you have a connection to all of the soldiers who fought.
